Make Your Next Trip Extraordinary

Wendy Wants To Amp Up Your Trip!

WendyPerrin.com | March 12, 2017

On every third qualifying trip, Wendy will personally add to your itinerary a surprise WOW Moment—custom-designed for you, and complimentary!

What is a WOW Moment?

It’s an unforgettable surprise experience that helps make a trip extraordinary. Here are examples:

A private rooftop Michelin-star dinner in Florence, Italy
A helicopter ride over the Great Wall of China
A Bora Bora overwater bungalow surprise
Dinner in the Fez medina with one of Morocco’s finest chefs
A private champagne lunch on the Namibian Coast
Learning the arts of pastry decoration and Sabrage in London

Every WOW Moment is totally different.  Each is a surprise that Wendy dreams up together with the Trusted Travel Expert (one of the destination specialists on The WOW List) who is planning your itinerary. WOW Moments vary depending on a huge range of factors including the destination, logistics, timing, availability, number of travelers, and more.

Program details, rules, and FAQs are below.

1. How do I get a WOW Moment?
2. Which trips qualify, and how will that change on July 1, 2018?
3. How do I redeem my WOW Moment gift certificate?
4. Do WOW Moments expire?
5. Does a trip qualify if it’s arranged by someone Wendy is testing for The WOW List?
6. Do the new requirements starting on July 1, 2018, apply to trip requests submitted before that date?
7. What if July 1, 2018, falls during my trip? Will the old requirements or the new requirements apply?
8. If I use the same Trusted Travel Expert repeatedly, do any of my trips qualify?
9. Why don’t trip requests submitted before October 18, 2015, qualify?
10. Why is Wendy giving travelers WOW Moments anyway?

1. How do I get a WOW Moment?

After two qualifying trips, you are awarded a WOW Moment gift certificate for use on your third qualifying trip. We automatically email you the gift certificate; you don’t even have to ask for it!  Every set of three qualifying trips earns you a WOW Moment during the third trip.

2. Which trips qualify, and how will that change on July 1, 2018?

Since the launch of the WOW Moments loyalty program on October 18, 2015, there have been two requirements for a trip to qualify:

1. You must use Wendy’s trip request form when you contact the Trusted Travel Expert (TTE). That’s how Wendy learns about your trip so that she can monitor it, and that’s what registers you as a V.I.P. traveler. To reach Wendy’s trip request form, browse The WOW List to find your ideal TTE, then click the black CONTACT button below that TTE’s listing, and you’ll reach Wendy’s “Let’s Create an Extraordinary Trip!” form. If you don’t use that form—if your initial contact with a TTE is by phone, for example, or via the TTE’s website—that trip will not qualify. The only way Wendy can ensure you end up with an extraordinary trip is if she’s in on your trip planning from the start.
NOTE: Any trips that began with a trip request form filled out before October 18, 2015, do not qualify.

2. You must review your trip when you get back. A few days after you return, Wendy will invite you to review the services of the TTE you used. You have the choice of submitting a private review—for Wendy’s eyes only—or a public review that will be posted on WendyPerrin.com for everyone to read. It’s your honest reviews that determine who Wendy keeps on The WOW List and who gets removed. Wendy is trying to make the travel world better and hold travel agents to the highest standard that exists. That’s why it’s so important that you review your travel experience and thus help your fellow travelers who are trying to decide whether or not to engage the services of the TTE you used.

Starting July 1, 2018, two additional requirements will apply:

3. The trip (the portion arranged by a TTE) must be five days or longer.  A small segment of a trip—say, a day tour or a two-night stopover—is not the same thing as a trip. Wendy’s mission is for you to experience the magic of a start-to-finish journey arranged by a WOW Lister.  Complete trips—which we are defining as at least five days in length—allow a TTE to shine and embellish your trip with special touches as your itinerary unfolds.  And Wendy needs at least five days to work with in order to add a WOW Moment to an itinerary; otherwise time is too limited, and opportunities are too few, to work a meaningful surprise into your trip.
NOTE: Five-day trips that are only four nights long do qualify.
NOTE: Context Travel tours do not qualify.
Context Travel does not design complete trips; it arranges brief (usually less than a day) walking tours.

4. Each of the three trips must be with a different destination specialist. Three trips, three unique TTEs.  That’s because Wendy wants you to get the best trip possible, which means using a TTE whose specialty is the destination you are traveling to. That might sound obvious—it’s the entire point of The WOW List—but you’d be surprised: Some travelers will use a TTE listed for Destination X, and then (because they had such a great trip) use that same TTE again, for Destination Y that the TTE is not listed for. That often leads to disappointment. And, of course, The WOW List was not designed to be used that way.  Wendy wants you to use a TTE who has earned a spot on The WOW List for the destination you are headed to.

3. How do I redeem my WOW Moment gift certificate?

After you return from your second qualifying trip, and after you’ve sent in a review for each of those two trips (again, the review can be either public or private), you will receive by email a WOW Moment gift certificate for use on your next qualifying trip.  Email it to the next TTE you use, following these guidelines:

  • Redeem it within one year of the date you received the certificate.
  • Redeem it at the moment when you make a deposit or otherwise become certain that you will be taking the trip.
  • Redeem it before you’ve made so many advance plans for your trip that there are few opportunities to squeeze in a WOW Moment.
  • Only one certificate may be redeemed per trip.
  • Remember, the WOW Moment is a surprise chosen by Wendy. Travelers do not get to pick their own WOW Moment.

4. Do WOW Moments expire?

Yes.  When your WOW Moment certificate arrives in your inbox, you have one year from that date to redeem your certificate. That means you have one year in which to book the trip; it does not mean you have only one year in which to take the trip.

5. Does a trip qualify if it’s arranged by someone Wendy is testing for The WOW List?

Yes, but with a caveat. Perhaps you weren’t even aware that there are numerous destination specialists whom Wendy is testing behind the scenes for possible inclusion on The WOW List, pending feedback from the travelers she sends to them.  Travelers who can’t find the person they need on The WOW List write to Ask Wendy, and that’s when Wendy often recommends one of these WOW List candidates. Trips with a WOW List candidate qualify in the WOW Moments program, as long as they meet all the other requirements listed in #2 above. In some cases, Wendy may advise you against redeeming a WOW Moment gift certificate on a trip arranged by a WOW List candidate, for the obvious reason that Wendy does not know yet whether or not that person is capable of delivering a true WOW Moment (since that person is still being tested).  If this should happen to you, Wendy will let you defer redemption of your certificate until your next trip arranged by a full-fledged TTE on The WOW List.

6. Do the new requirements starting on July 1 (detailed in #2 above) apply to trip requests submitted before July 1?

Yes.  Let’s say you submitted a trip request in February for a three-night trip happening in August. That trip will not qualify. This is why we’re giving you so much advance notice of the new requirements.

7. What if July 1 falls during my trip? Will the old requirements or the new requirements apply?

The new requirements (detailed in #2 above) apply to trips that start on July 1 or later. Say your trip starts on June 29 and ends on July 8: The old (meaning, the current) requirements will apply. Say your trip starts on July 1: The new requirements will apply.

8. If I use the same Trusted Travel Expert repeatedly, do any of my trips qualify?

Each of the three trips necessary for a WOW Moment must be planned by a different TTE. Three trips, three unique TTEs.  If you use the same TTE repeatedly, only your first trip with that TTE will qualify; the other trips are disqualified and will never count toward any future WOW Moment.

After the trip during which you experience your WOW Moment, the counting starts over again fresh: In your next set of three trips, one trip with the original TTE will qualify. Here’s an example of how it works:

Trip #1 with TTE John Doe: Qualifies
Trip #2 with TTE Ted Jones: Qualifies and you receive a WOW Moment gift certificate.
Trip #3 with TTE Jane Smith: Qualifies and you redeem your certificate and experience                                                             your WOW Moment on this trip.

Then the “three unique TTEs” requirement starts over again.

Trip #4 with TTE John Doe: Qualifies
Trip #5 with TTE John Doe: Disqualified and never counts toward any future WOW Moment.
Trip #6 with TTE Jane Smith: Qualifies and you receive a WOW Moment gift certificate.
Trip #7 with TTE Jane Smith: Disqualified and never counts toward any future WOW Moment.                                     Your gift certificate cannot be used on Trip #7 because only two TTEs have                                               been used in the required set of three trips.
Trip #8 with TTE Ted Jones: Qualifies and you redeem your certificate and collect your WOW                                       Moment on this trip.

9. Why don’t trip requests submitted before October 18, 2015, qualify?

That’s the date when we launched this program. We were not technologically able to make it retroactive.

10. Why is Wendy giving travelers WOW Moments anyway?

First, Wendy wants to thank you for trying out her unprecedented WOW trip-planning system. Since its launch in September 2014, many of you have provided constructive feedback to help Wendy iron out the bugs and improve the system as it develops. Second, Wendy wants to encourage you to use The WOW List in the way that is most beneficial to you, and she wants to incentivize you to submit a review every time you use a travel specialist who is on The WOW List or being tested for it. It’s your reviews that determine who earns a spot on, or gets removed from, the List. It’s your reviews that keep The WOW List up-to-the-minute accurate and reliable.  Third, Wendy is well aware that, as travelers continue to use TTEs for trip after trip, their standards and expectations grow higher and higher with each trip. WOW Moments are a way to ensure that your TTE-designed trips just keep getting better.

Is there an additional charge added on for going through your WOW trip request form rather than dealing directly with the WOW agent? Thanks.

  2. Mary Lou Fullerton

We are going on a Regent cruise Dubai to Singapore on Nov 14th and have 2 days in Dubai and 3 days planned in Abu Dhabi. We also have 2 1/2 days at Inle Lake in Myanmar. Do you have any suggests for what to do in these locales or a WOW experience ?

  3. Kathy at Goseeittravel

Oh bummer, I just booked 2 trips with WOW listers, but went direct. Oh well, at least I have fabulous trips planned!

    1. Wendy Perrin

      Hi Kathy,
There are three reasons, not counting Wendy’s WOW Experiences, to use my trip-request form:

      1. You get my trip-monitoring service. That means you get important advice from me at key phases of the trip-planning process (or whenever you happen to need it) and you can reach out to me for help. After all, I can’t track your trip if I don’t know about it.

      2. The Trusted Travel Expert will know that Wendy sent you and make you a priority. That’s no small thing, given that TTEs are the best in their field, in high demand, and very busy.

      3. Every Trusted Travel Expert has pledged to do the following for any traveler coming via a wendyperrin.com trip-request form:
      * Respond to trip requests within 48 hours.
      * Make wendyperrin.com travelers a top priority.
      * Speak by phone with each traveler who submits a trip request.
      * Extend the lowest pricing he/she offers publicly.
      * Extend VIP courtesies and benefits.

So, Kathy, there’s no down side to the trip-request form — only up side. It’s all part of my grand plan to provide travelers with trips that are better than they ever thought possible, create a new gold standard that the entire travel-planning industry will be held to, and rehabilitate human-being travel planners in the eyes of skeptical but ill-informed consumers. Wish me luck!

  4. Kathy vitale

    Hi,
We just completed a trip to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan designed by your Central Asia WOW member Zulya Rajabova. We are scheduled to tour with Andrea Ross to Myanmar. Do these count toward your WOW promotion? FYI, Zulya’s trip was outstanding. She took amazing care before, during and after our travels. Hurray for Zulya!

    1. Wendy Perrin

Kathy, I hope you’ll post a review of Zulya here on her review page! Detailed feedback about the Trusted Travel Experts really benefits your fellow travelers.

As for the WOW Rewards program, it only just launched on October 18, so the trips you booked before October 18 do not count toward your total. You’ll earn a WOW Experience on every third trip you book through a Trusted Travel Expert, using our trip-request form, starting October 18. I tried to clarify that above (see point #3). Thank you for understanding. I promise you that the trip you’ve planned through Andrea will contain plenty of WOW. Bon voyage!

    2. Andrea Ross

      Hi Kathy,
I wanted to let you know that we are making sure you have WOW moments throughout your trip to Myanmar and the good news is, since you travel with us in January, that trip will count towards earning a WOW experience from Wendy even sooner! Don’t worry though, we’re making sure your January trip will be exceptional!
      Best,
      Andrea
