Make Your Next Trip Extraordinary

How Travel Insurance and Other Tools Can Protect You from Today’s Risks

by | February 7, 2026

In the current political climate, are there ways to protect your financial investment in a future trip, and to guard against unexpected injuries, compromised safety, or other travel risks? During WOW Week 2026, Stan Sandberg from TravelInsurance.com and Sheri Howell from Medjet answered these and many other questions. Watch the video below (recorded on January 30, 2026) to hear their advice.

Here’s one tip that our live audience learned: Given the constantly shifting geopolitical landscape, it’s important to know that most travel insurance will not cover trip cancellation due to acts of war. But some plans do cover cancellation because of civil unrest, riots, and certain changes in the U.S. State Department’s advisory level for your destination.

A policy with a Cancel For Any Reason upgrade will give you the broadest coverage, but with the highest premiums.

      Hi Nancy,
An Amex Platinum card’s coverage is similar to what you’ll get with many insurance providers: They will only cover transportation to the nearest facility that they deem to be adequate.

The difference with Medjet is that YOU get to make the decision about where you want to be treated. Medjet will fly you home, even if you are already at a hospital that can handle your illness/injury.

      Thanks for watching!
