Make Your Next Trip Extraordinary

If you are thinking about a trip to Egypt, we highly recommend that you contact Jim. We contacted him some months ago and within a day we were talking to his colleague, Arlene Santos-Hurlbert, to start discussing trip ideas and options. Arlene asked all the right questions to get to know us, and within days we had a fabulous itinerary. All we can say is that Jim/Arlene delivered two weeks of amazing experiences and people, with incredible attention to detail. With a custom trip, we were able to visit many sites that group tours don’t, and we could spend as much time as we wanted in any museum or site.

Representatives met us on arrival at each city, organized everything seamlessly, introduced us to our guides, and made sure we were always cared for. Our guides were exceptional, friendly, full of stories (not just facts and dates!), and great company through our walks, tours, drives, and lunches. We felt very lucky to be spending personal time learning about our guides’ lives and about modern Egypt. Our drivers were charming, helpful, on-time, and somehow always exactly where we needed them.

The restaurants that were selected as part of our itineraries were both delicious and fun, and our Walking Food Tour of Cairo was a highlight of the trip. Our hotels, including the Oberoi Philae cruise ship that Arlene recommended to us, were all perfect (we had never been on a cruise!) and provided terrific service/amenities after very busy sightseeing days. The whole trip was flawless, the authentic hospitality of everyone we met was so special, and if there were any hiccups behind the scenes, we never knew about them. Even at the newly-opened Grand Egyptian Museum, which we visited just a few days after the opening ceremony, our guide navigated us through the crowds so smoothly. A remarkable feat, because no one could have known what that week would be like (and a day later, the museum changed the reservation process because of the numbers of visitors).

A trip to Egypt is intense (in a good way!) and this trip was even more exciting and amazing than we had hoped. Many thanks to Jim/Arlene for making it happen for us.

We traveled with another couple to Egypt May 25th- June 11, 20225. This trip had so many changes along the way (we postponed the original trip by a year, changed travel companions six months out, and had several last-minute changes for a variety of reasons) and Seema and her colleagues were amazing. All the guides, transfers, tickets, and reservations were coordinated and organized so we could relax and follow instructions. Such a gift on a trip with as many moving parts as ours!

We really enjoyed all of the sites and the guides did a really good job helping us understand why each was important and pointing out many of the unique and special aspects. Without a guide they do all start to look the same—mind-blowing, and unimaginable, and older in a way that is just hard to comprehend… but understanding the details make it all so much more meaningful and interesting.

A few of our favorite activities:
– the food tour in Cairo
– the GEM museum
– The Nubian Village (the weaver was weaving, and the museum “owner” was the one who talked to us—both huge bonuses)
– Abu Simbel—totally worth the flight!
– Luxor at Sunset
– the 2nd day on the Nile Cruise when we were actually cruising—so fun!

We ended our trip at The Four Seasons in Sharm El Sheikh for diving and relaxing on the beach. The dive shop was excellent—Andy is a seasoned diver and was amazed at what he was able to see, and our friend got certified while we were there. This was such a decadent way to end our trip. We got home relaxed and well rested, which is somewhat unusual but not unwelcome.

Since we’ve been home, the question we get the most is “was it safe? did you feel safe?” We did feel completely safe the entire time. There wasn’t a single moment when we felt unsafe or uncomfortable or concerned. Not as Americans, women, or jews.

Thank you to Seema, her staff, our guides… to everyone who helped make our trip so enjoyable, educational, and stress-free!

We are just back from a trip of a lifetime to Egypt planned for four couples by Jim, a WOW List planner. Our trip could not have been smoother—the choices of sights were perfect, and we were met at each destination by a planner, an Egyptologist, and a driver. We stayed at breathtaking hotels, and noticed that our rooms were always in the most choice spot. One of the best parts of the trip was four days spent on an Oberoi cruise ship on the Nile—totally luxurious and relaxing, but with exciting side trips each day. Egypt is a stunning but complex place to visit—we would not have been able to enjoy such an exciting trip without the expert planning that Jim and his team provided.

My trip to Egypt, after an initial conversation with James, was then coordinated by Arlene at his company. I am now 80 years old and it was the best trip of my life! I traveled with a friend who is 78, and we could never have seen and experienced so many wonderful things without Arlene’s planning and constant assistance, even while we were traveling. It is a tribute to both her and Jim that all our local coordinators love them! We were cared for and our needs were met as never before. When terrain was difficult or there were stairs without railings, our guides assisted us, one on each arm. The guides were excellent and highly respected by other guides we met, and our drivers were superb, especially Abraham, our expert driver in the chaotic traffic of Cairo.

We decided to skip the long car trip to Abydos and Arlene arranged an alternative program in the Valley of the Kings, including the workmen’s tombs which should not be missed. Sailing the Nile on a dahabiya is always going to be a cherished memory! Also a food tour in Cairo with a local company called Bellies en Route, escorted by Inas on one of the first days, who introduced us to a Cairo we would never have seen otherwise.

Small changes in our schedule were made smoothly and unobtrusively to suit our needs and changing conditions by Samy, our overall local coordinator and friend for life. And to cap it all off, our WOW Moment was a private yacht trip, including a delicious meal, on the Nile in Aswan. The trip was a highlight in my lifetime of travel!
